Man killed after being struck by bus while holding 5-year-old child

A 40-year-old father walking on the road while holding his child was killed after being struck by a bus near Herathgama Junction on the Kurunegala–Puttalam Road, police said.

The deceased was a resident of the Aulegama area, said police.

The accident occurred yesterday (12) when he was walking along the road carrying his five-year-old child and was hit by a bus travelling towards Puttalam.

Both the father and child sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Nikaweratiya Base Hospital.

The father later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment, police said.

The injured child was subsequently transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Police have arrested the driver of the bus involved in the accident, and Wariyapola Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
